Breaking: Ondo Tribunal dismisses PDP, Adu’s petition against Akure Reps member ‘LAF’

The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure today dismissed the petition filed by the PDP candidate, Barrister Olumuyiwa Adu and his party PDP wherein they are challenging outcome of the Akure South/North federal constituency bye-election held on the 26th of February, 2022 which declared Hon. Mayokun Lawson Alade (LAF) as the winner.

The court subsequently upheld the election of LAF.

The petition challenged the outcome in 10 wards and 26 polling units.

The petition was filed on the 19th of March, 2022 following which Hon Mayokun Lawson Alade entered his appearance and filed a defence of over 100 pages to defend his mandate.

Overall, the election was conducted in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022 and the return made by INEC in favour of Hon Mayokun Lawson Alade was affirmed by the tribunal.

The election petition tribunal sitting in Akure today dismissed the petition filed by the PDP candidate barrister Olumuyiwa Adu and his party PDP wherein they are challenging outcome of the Akure south and Akure North federal constituency by election held on the 26th of February,2022 which declared Hon. Mayokun Lawson Alade as the winner.

The petition challenged the outcome in 10 wards and 26 polling units.

The petition was presented on the 19th of March, 2022 following which Hon Mayokun Lawson Alade entered his appearance and filed a defence of over 100 pages to defend his mandate.

He challenged the two grounds of the petition and submitted that the totality of the case of the petitioners which rested on the allegations of over voting, violence and irregularities in Akure North local government is without merit.

In a considered judgement today, the Tribunal agreed with Hon. Mayokun Lawson Alade that the petition was without merit and accordingly dismissed the case. According to the court, all the witnesses called gave unsatisfactory evidence, allegations of violence in the 10 wards was not established.

Also, the allegations of overvoting and the discrepancies in the BVAS report with the Forms E8C(A) was not also established.

Overall, the election was conducted in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act,2022 and the return made by INEC in favour of Hon Mayokun Lawson Alade was affirmed by the tribunal
